Kering

Empowering imagination
  • €12.4bn group revenue in 2016
  • €1.9bn group recurring operating income in 2016

40.9% owned by Artémis, Kering is a world leader in apparel and accessories with a presence in two growing markets segments: Luxury and Sport & Lifestyle. The group brought together leading and complementary brands that all have considerable organic growth potential.

Founded by François Pinault and based on timber and building material businesses, the Kering group positioned itself in the mid-nineties in the retail sector, and rapidly became one of its leading actors. Acquiring Gucci in 1999 and setting up a group encompassing several luxury brands was a major shift in the group’s strategy. In 2007, Kering seized a new growth opportunity by taking over Puma, which allowed the group to spread its activity to the Sport & Lifestyle sector. Since then, Kering has pursued its refocusing strategy on the Luxury and the Sport & Lifestyle sectors, while progressively selling off retail businesses. Since 2013, the Group new identity and culture, Kering, is the logical and necessary outcome of this transformation. The stem ”ker “ meaning home in Breton, is a proud reminder of the Group origins in the Britanny region of France. And Kering can be pronounced as ‘caring’ in English, which expresses the company culture of taking care of its brands, people, stakeholders, and the environment.
